Invitation from Kunming Medical University to Application for NSFC Distinguished Young Scholars Program (Overseas)

In order to further implement the strategy of "Strengthening University Through Talents", promote the construction of disciplines and high-level talents, and improve the overall level of teaching staff, Kunming Medical University (KMU) sincerely invites international talents to choose it as host institution toapply for the Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) of the National Natural Science Foundation of China [hereinafter referred to as Distinguished Young Scholars Program (Overseas) ]. The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) set up the Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) in 2021. The Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) aims to support outstanding young scholars from overseas (including non-Chinese international applicants) who have made important achievements in natural science, engineering and technology to return to China (to work in China) and carry out innovative research on their own choice of direction, to promote the rapid growth of young scientific and technological talents, to train a number of outstanding academic researchers who are expected to enter the frontiers of science and technology in the world, and to contribute to science and technology development of the country.

Requirements for Application

1. Eligibility

Abiding by the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, having good ethics in science, and consciously practicing the contemporary spirit of scientists

·Was born on or after January 1st, 1983

·Having obtained doctorate degree

·Conducting researches mainly in the areas of Clinical Medicine, Pharmaceutics, Biology, Chemistry, Basic Medicine, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Stomatology, Medical Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc.

·Before March 15th, 2023, having no less than 36-month continuously research or teaching experience in an overseas university or R&D institute (Exceptions will be given to applicants who have obtained the doctorate degree overseas with extraordinary research achievement)

·Reaching the achievements in scientific research or technology recognized by peer experts, and having the potential to become anleading expert or outstanding scholar in his/her field

·Having not return China yet orhaving come back after January 1st, 2022 and being willing to work full time for 3 years in China with no other jobs overseas 

2. Requirements for limited programs

To follow the regulations about the coordination of scientific and technological talents by relevant national departments, the applicants can once only hold 1 funded program of the same type.


Remuneration Package and Supporting Conditions

Those who choose KMU as host institution and successfully apply for Distinguished Young Scholars Program (including those who are willing to work in the directly affiliated hospital) can be employed as the Discipline Leader of Kunming Medical University and enjoyits corresponding supporting conditions.

·Agreed annual salary of no less than RMB 1 million (before tax)

·Housing subsidy of RMB 3.5 million (before tax)

·Fund for scientific research and supporting equipment of noless than RMB 5 million

·The title of Professor at university level

·Be able to be selected as doctoral supervisor with certain postgraduate enrollment quota

·Transitional housing for talents

·Staffing in public institutions

·High-quality medical care

·Work arrangement for spouse

·Children schooling

Notice: If the applicants fail at the final interview of Distinguished Young Scholars Program (Overseas), he/she can also be preferentially employed as Academic Backbone of Kunming Medical University, enjoying corresponding remuneration and the priority of the application of provincial talent programs.

How To Apply

For young scholar who is interested in applying for the program with KMU as his/her host institution, please send following materials to kyrcyj@kmmu.edu.cn with the subject“Distinguished Young Scholars Program (Overseas)”. The university will arrange staff for negotiation as soon as possible. After reaching the preliminary agreement, there will be specially-assigned staff to assist in the follow-up application work. The documentation for application is as follows:

·Resume, including basic personal information, education background, work experience, introduction of main academic achievements, academic achievements catalog, research projects undertaken, etc.

·Future work plan and research proposal

·Other necessary documentation.


Application Instructions

·Eligible applicants should sign a work contract or anintention agreement with the host institution according to the regulations. Then log in to the NSFC application system after January 15th, 2023, and fill in the Application Form for the Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) of the National Natural Science Foundation of China online. The applicant shall be responsible for the authenticity of the application documents submitted.

·The applicant shall fill in the Application Form online in simplified Chinese or English according to the instructions and upload documents.

·The application of Distinguished Young Scholars Program (Overseas) adopts the paperless method. Applicants shall submit electronic Application Form, attachments and impartiality commitment documents to the host institution online. They will be reviewed and submitted to the NSFC online by the host institution.
